What We Do

Provide Support – PFLAG facilitates a monthly online support group for parents and allies of LGBTQ+ folks as well as 1:1 support as requested. We also connect people to local community resources and provide periodic programs for special topics and events.

Advocate – PFLAG strives to partner with other local and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable, and just world for the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Our History

PFLAG is an organization of LGBTQ+ people, parents, families, and allies who work together to create an equitable and inclusive world. We are hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of chapters from coast to coast who are leading with love to support families, educate allies, and advocate for just, equitable, and inclusive legislation and policies.

Since our founding in 1973, PFLAG works every day to ensure LGBTQ+ people everywhere are safe, celebrated, empowered and loved.

  • Where's the T & the Q?

Historically known as Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays, in 1998, PFLAG National formally broadened its mission to include transgender people.  In 2014, they dropped the acronym and became PFLAG to better reflect the broad support for all LGBTQ+ people that PFLAG chapters nationwide have engaged in for decades.
