PFLAG Portland Maine Annual Appeal 2020

Dear Allies,

2020 has been one of the most difficult years our community has faced in recent history. Our LGBTQ+ loved ones have faced challenges they had never encountered before, and studies show that LBGTQ+ communities are at a heightened risk for complications resulting from COVID-19.

During this trying time, we have had to learn to come together as strong allies to battle COVID-19, ongoing discrimination, and a politically charged environment aimed at taking away the rights of our LGBTQ+ loved ones.

In 2021 PFLAG will need to be stronger than ever with our advocacy for the Greater Portland LGBTQ+ community. We all know what is at stake – a future of equality, safety, and acceptance for the people we love and support.

Please join PFLAG Portland Maine in our mission to offer support, education, and advocacy.

We need your help more than ever!

Please consider donating to PFLAG Portland in one or more of these ways:

  • A direct donation…it is tax deductible and may be matched by your employer

  • Join (or renew) PFLAG membership for $30…we welcome any additional donation

  • When shopping on Amazon, use Amazon SMILE, with PFLAG Portland Maine.

PFLAG Portland Maine has existed for over 25 years providing compassionate peer support to parents, friends, and families through group discussion, education, advocacy, and a variety of resources.  Four years ago, we joined the Equality Community Center (ECC) to strengthen our bonds with other organizations that provide services and advocate for Portland and Maine’s LGBTQ+ community.

With your support, we provide representation, involvement, and input to ECC events, maintain a social media presence and website, and issue a monthly newsletter. This year we plan to continue to build our presence in Maine school systems by working with GLSEN Southern Maine, local Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA) organizations, and the Barbara Bush Gender Clinic at Maine Medical to provide information and support to parents, families, friends and allies.

With the ongoing need to protect our community and ourselves through the pandemic we are excited to begin offering secure online support meetings through PFLAG Connect.  We expect to start them in time for the holidays this year, which are likely to be more stressful than usual.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,

Sarah, Anthony, Muriel, Susanne, Rebecca, Stephanie, Michael, Bill, Katrine and Beth
